The Great Steppe goes on tour
On the eve of Christmas Spectators of five capitals in Europe will be introduced to the Great Steppe Theater. As part of the Modernization of Public Consciousness program, artists of the Kazakh Concert, Astana Musical and the German State Drama Theater will perform in Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Brussels and Moscow. The Kyz Zhibek musical will be showcased in Kazakhstan. The artists intend to present an original style by recreating an atmosphere of the life of nomads. The German theater troupe will stage the tragedy of Karakoz by Mukhtar Auezov.
ASKHAT MAYEMIROV, ART DIRECTOR, ASTANA MUSICAL THEATER:
- The classical Kyz Zhibek production which we are accustomed to seeing is performed by a symphony orchestra. We changed all the music to a folklore ethnographic ensemble. We wanted this performance to be close to the one staged by Kulyash Baiseitova, Kurmanbek Zhandarbek and Kanybek Baiseitov. This is a tribute to our roots.
NATALYA DUBS, DIRECTOR, GERMAN STATE DRAMA THEATER:
- First of all, I would like to express my great gratitude for this trust. This project was created jointly with the Goethe Institute, which is our constant and long-term partner. The beginning of the history of this project dates back to 2012, when we only started it. First, a translation took place and then we looked for how to present it in an interesting way. This isn’t the first tour of the German Theater to Europe, but they are touring with the Kazakh project for the first time.
