Transition to Latin Script
Azerbaijani philologists also concerned about the transition of Kazakh to the Latin script. The scientists approved the final version of the Latin script. According to researchers, in comparison with the previous project, the new release is more pragmatic in terms of the principles of using language tools.
RAMIZ ASKEROV, DEPUTY HEAD, TURCOLOGY DEPARTMENT, BAKU STATE UNIVERSITY:
- This is a better solution comparing to the combined letters. It is better to express ‘Ш’ by S with an apostrophe and to write C with the apostrophe to express ‘Ч’. It is necessary to go through a certain stage which is to observe a learning process of a child. Then there may be new proposals.
Azerbaijani scientist Firuza Agayeva believes that the transition to the Latin script will also help integrate the language of the Turkic peoples. Firuza Agayeva actively participates in discussions on this topic. According to Firuza Agayeva, the principles of the common Turkic alphabet which were adopted back in 1926 at the congress of the Turcologists can be used today.
FIRUZA AGAYEVA, PROFESSOR, BAKU STATE UNIVERSITY:
- The alphabet unites the Turkic peoples. If the Turkic peoples follow the rules of the common Turkic alphabet, then we can better understand each other. Moreover, this is a good opportunity to integrate with European culture.
Scientists agree that the new project of the alphabet with 32 letters fully reflects the phonetics of the Kazakh language. According to the researchers, Kazakh is rich in native Turkic words comparing to other related languages. Therefore, owing to the transition to the Latin script, other languages can adopt the ancient Turkic words from Kazakh.
