Unique books in latin script
The works of outstanding Kazakh classics published in the Latin script have been introduced to school students in Kyzylorda. Copies of books and original publications are exhibited in the branch of the regional local history museum "Akmeshit". School students can attend the museum excursion and the lesson devoted to these books. The museum is proud to exhibit the well-preserved original collection of poems by Abai Kunanbaev published in 1929.
RAISA ALDUNGAROVA, MUSEUM GUIDE:
- The collection includes works dated 1891, 1892, 1894 and 1896. This is the original volume. One of the local residents handed it to the museum 26 years ago. According to him, the book was left for storage by a distant relative of the writer. All the poems in it were written by Abai Kunanbaev in the Latin script. This proves that the Latin script was used even then.
The unique books became the topic of the lessons conducted in the museum by Nagisha Yesbosyn. The Kazakh language teacher explained the alphabet reform through history and cultural heritage. This method helps students understand the importance of the process, the teacher says.
NAGISHA YESBOSYN, KAZAKH LANGUAGE TEACHER:
- There are only 26 native sounds in the Kazakh language, all the others were borrowed. Students should understand that their mother tongue is the main national value. Therefore it is very important to adopt the script that accurately expresses all specific sounds. The Latin script is most acceptable in this regard.
School students are discussing the transition to the Latin script at school. The lesson’s topic is the ‘Kazakh language: present, past and future’, where students are encouraged to express their opinion.
AILINA MAKHMUT, SCHOOL STUDENT, REGIONAL LYCEUM FOR GIFTED CHILDREN №10:
- We send messages in Latin script to each other. It is very convenient. There are positive sides for our developing country. There are many of those who are learning Kazakh language, and the Latin script will be more convenient for them.
The Kazakh alphabet will change its appearance in few years. Researchers believe that new works written in Kazakh language will enter the spiritual treasury of Kazakh literature.
