Transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin script is one of the most discussed topics in Kazakhstan. Activists of the youth resource center in South Kazakhstan region expressed their opinion on this issue. They have already held meetings and round tables with university and school students in the region in support of the President's initiative. They are planning to organize a large-scale campaign "Do you know the Latin alphabet?" that will involve nearly 5,000 young people.
SHOLPAN KUAK, STAFF, YOUTH RESOURCE CENTER:
- Transition to the Latin alphabet will boost the economic development. If we switch to the Latin script it will be much easier for foreigners to learn our Kazakh language.
Doctors in Aktobe welcomed the idea of transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin script. According to doctors, it is very convenient to write in Latin. Foreign students who study at Kazakhstani universities will find it much easier to learn Kazakh. In addition, most medical terms and scientific papers are written in Latin.
YERBOLAT ISTLEUOV, DEPUTY DEAN, WEST KAZAKHSTAN STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY:
- Latin is very close to the medical community. In the age of technological advancement, it's no secret that we have a lot of equipment that has a Latin layout, and it's easier for doctors to type in a patient's name, and diagnoses in Latin script.
