Latin alphabet will be a good incentive for younger generation to study world literature
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty hosted a scientific-practical conference. Participants of the conference claim that the transition to the Latin script will strengthen political, cultural and economic cooperation with countries far abroad and will become a bridge of communication between compatriots around the world. According to linguists, introduction of the Latin alphabet will be a good incentive for younger generation to study world literature and translations of famous writers in the original. Young people can use ideas in masterpieces of classical prose as personal reference points in life.
ALENA APHANASYEVA, PROFESSOR, PHD, AL-FARABI KAZAKH NATIONAL UNIVERSITY:
- If our students will study literature in the language they speak, this will remove obstacles that prevented from being introduced to masterpieces of world literature. Shakespeare and Kafka are the most famous works written in Latin and I think schoolchildren by reading and learning them will behave in a completely different way. They will be ready to join the world of science as a literary critic and join globalization that we are talking about.
Representatives of the public of the Almaty region are confident that the transition to the Latin alphabet will be easy and will give all opportunities to acquire new knowledge.
OKSANA YAKHIMOVICH, MEMBER OF CITY MASLIKHAT:
- Latin is the language of advanced and digital technologies. Today, Latin is an up-to-date system in communications.
