Doctors of the National Research Cardiac Surgery Center conducted an artificial heart transplant in Astana
Domestic doctors actively use innovative methods and technologies. The team of doctors of the National Research Cardiac Surgery Center conducted an artificial heart transplant. Specialists operated on the 60-year-old resident of Pavlodar. A breakthrough in cardiac surgery was possible thanks to the innovative development of French bioengineers and high professionalism of domestic doctors. In total, around 20 operations are planned in the world as part of the 6-month research. Doctors in 5 different countries conducted research to be the first in the field.
YURI PYA, CHAIRMAN, NATIONAL RESEARCH CARDIAC SURGERY CENTER:
- This is not just the implantation of an artificial heart. It is about to give hope and an opportunity to patients who can’t receive a donor heart who are no longer suitable for heart transplant. The artificial heart is very close in its parameters to the normal physiological state of a body.
The news about the operation are discussed among the physicians both in the country and abroad. The Ukrainian cardiologists believe that such procedures show that Kazakhstan’s medicine is developed.
VLADIMIR ZHOVNIR, CHIEF PHYSICIAN, CENTER OF PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY AND CARDIAC SURGERY, DOCTOR OF MEDICINE:
- The fact that Kazakhstan has mastered this technique and that our colleagues from Kazakhstan have the opportunity to implant artificial hearts is a great achievement. I'm happy for my Kazakh colleagues. They have the opportunity to do this. This is quite an expensive technology. I hope that Kazakhstan will not stop at this, but will develop rapidly.
Patients from other countries show their interest in Kazakhstan's health care. The medical tourism is especially popular. According to experts, people from India, Czech Republic, Italy, the U.S., Great Britain, and China prefer to get a treatment in Kazakhstan. As this area is developing, the country is getting even more offers. The experts say that foreigners are attracted to the doctors’ experiences who conduct complex operations.
FARIDA WORKMAN, U.S. RESIDENT:
- I was looking for information in internet and I read a lot of information. I found special clinic that makes special surgery of heart.
The development of medicine and medical tourism can bring tens of millions of tenge to the country's budget, experts say. It is important to make available all the components in order to make the breakthrough in the country.
