EXPO-2017: THE PAVILION OF AUSTRIA VISITORS CAN MAKE THE ENERGY
The world leader in renewables, Austria has presented one of the most creative pavilions at Astana EXPO 2017. The team of architects has created a real playground where visitors generate energy. For example, when the guests pedal the bicycle, the Ferris wheel begins to spin. The wheel displays everything that are widely associated with Austria, the Alps, Mozart and chocolate. It is possible to get electricity with the help of other devices in order to watch a video about the country. This has been realized in order to reflect the pavilion’s main idea, “the energy of the future is the man himself" which should be treated with great care. Thus, in a vivid example, the guests can see how kinetic energy is generated and how it can be transformed. Not only adults, but also children will like the Austrian pavilion.
RICHARD SCHENZ, COMMISSIONER OF AUSTRIAN EXPO PAVILION:
- The purpose of our pavilion is to present the theme of energy in a playful form. We are oriented towards the family audience, but at the same time we offer an economic program, through which we will be able to build new economic relations and strengthen existing ties with Kazakhstan.
At Astana EXPO 2017, technologies of Austria are presented outside the national pavilion, too. For example, one of the companies of this country has equipped the Kazakh Nur Alem pavilion with solar panels. The obtained energy allows a futuristic sphere with illumination. Another Austrian corporation has supplied pipes from high-strength cast iron for water supply to the expo town. However, this isn’t everything.
BERNADETTE GERLINGER, DEPUTY MINISTER OF SCIENCE, RESEARCH AND ECONOMY, AUSTRIA:
-Three Austrian projects were selected for the Best Practices Area EXPO 2017 pavilion. These are solar technologies, the technologies for the use of tidal forces in hydropower, as well as rickshaws on solar batteries. We are proud of our achievements in the field of green energy. Today Austria is in the top10 countries of the world on energy efficiency and waste processing.
According to Gerhard Sailler, Austrian Ambassador to Kazakhstan, the expo is an excellent platform for expanding bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries in renewable energy industry. In this direction, the European state has already achieved a great success. Today approximately 80% of the Austrian electricity is produced from renewables. It is expected to completely abandon fossil fuels by 2030.
GERHARD SAILLER, AUSTRIAN AMBASSADOR TO KAZAKHSTAN:
- Green energy plays a very important role for Austria. We have many companies that are in this business and you can see that there is an interest. Today, approximately 60-80 Austrian companies are working here. I think this shows that green energy is of importance for Austria. The concept of the expo - the future energy is an ideal theme for us.
The fifth Kazakh-Austrian business council has proved the interest of Austrian business in the Kazakh market. The forum was held as part of the Austrian National Day at Astana EXPO 2017 and gathered more than 100 entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs had the opportunity to establish cooperation and agree on new projects.
YERLAN KHAIROV, VICE MINISTER FOR INVESTMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT, KAZAKHSTAN:
- If we talk about the investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and Austria, then we have about 150 registered joint ventures. About US$2.8 billion have been invested from Austria to Kazakhstan over the past 10 years. Turnover is approximately US$1.2 billion.
Austria and Kazakhstan share a policy of the careful use of natural resources. In this area, Austrian enterprises are ready to share technologies for combating environmental pollution and waste management with Kazakhstan. Innovative solutions will not only reduce the negative impact on nature, but will also help to create new jobs. Today, almost every 20th job is the so-called "green" one which contributes to the environment in Austria.
EKATERINA SPECHT, HEAD OF MARKETING DEPARTMENT, M-U-T STOCKERAU, AUSTRIA:
- We provide communal equipment, water purification facilities, drinking water preparation and garbage trucks. The company has been working for a long time. Equipment is provided all over the world and we are trying to cooperate with the Kazakh companies as well as with the state.
In the future, businessmen of the two countries intend to cooperate in areas like engineering, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, logistics and tourism. Undoubtedly, green technologies won’t be dismissed.
