Chairperson of the European Parliament’s Delegation to Central Asia Fulvio Martusciello said that the measures introduced in Kazakhstan to combat the spread of COVID-19 infection were timely and correct, Kazinform news website reported.

Martusciello emphasized that Kazakhstan acted in accordance with all recommendations of the World Health Organization. The quarantine restrictions were strict, but absolutely necessary. He said that these measures helped the country to reduce the pressure on the healthcare system, as well as saved the lives and health of thousands of Kazakh citizens.

“It is also important that the government, having taken preventive measures of deterrence, has allocated significant resources both to support the health system and the social sphere, and the Kazakh citizens have rallied under the onslaught of a common threat,” Martusciello added.

In addition, the Delegation’s head noted the high competitiveness of Kazakh biomedical industry. Scientific institutions in Kazakhstan managed to the coronavirus testing system in a short time, as well as started testing the vaccine against the deadly virus.

Martusciello recalled the recent agreement between the European Union and Kazakhstan, which will strengthen friendly ties between the countries and open up new advantages of their cooperation.

“Any crisis ends and now is the time to look to the future, where relationships between the EU and Kazakhstan will become even stronger,” Martusciello said.
