Kazakhstan reports difficulties timely obtaining pharmaceutical supplies due to COVID-19 pandemic

Chairperson of the ‘SK-Pharmacy’ company Berik Sharip stated that the Kazakh residents, who are receiving either out-patient or in-patient care, are able to lodge a complaint of a lack of certain drugs.

There is a call center 1439 where any patient can call and report the lack of a particular drug. Though the work of the call center is focused primarily on outpatients, actually any patient can call irrespective whether his request is related to inpatient or outpatient medication availability. We are very active here – if there is a new complaint received from a patient, we call to the responsible medical institution ourselves and request them to jointly solve this issue,” Sharip says.

He also noted that in case a particular drug is out of stock, it can be ordered from a different medical institution or it can be delivered from a special hub where a certain stock of medications is stored.

Kazakhstan is currently experiencing difficulties obtaining supplies of certain drugs.

There are nearly 20 kinds of drugs on which we are currently having difficulty obtaining arranged supplies due to the global pandemic. In case we get total rejection from the supplier to deliver us the medication and we won’t have any guarantee that it will be delivered sometime in the future, then we start to look for alternative options. However, if the supplier promises to solve the problem and to deliver the drugs in the near future, then we would stick with that medical provider,” Sharip added.
