Trump promises COVID-19 vaccine by the end of year, while Russian Prime Minister is infected with coronavirus
The world continues fighting against the novel coronavirus, but the number of infected people is growing every day. According to the data from Johns Hopkins University, reported cases of COVID-19 infection worldwide stand at more than 3.5 million. The global coronavirus death toll exceeds 247,000 people. However, there are good news as well – the cases of recovery increase as well. To date, more than 1.125 million COVID-19 patients reported to have recovered from the disease.
The United States remains the hardest-hit country in the pandemic. The COVID-19 infected nearly 1.160 million people in the country. Despite the high number of infections, many U.S. states are gradually lifting the lockdown measures.
In addition, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the country intends to develop the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of this year.
“We think we’ll have a vaccine by the end of this year and we’re pushing very hard,” said Trump at a Fox News town hall at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington.
Spain remains the second worst-hit country in terms of the number of coronavirus cases. The country reported a total of more than 217,000 COVID-19 cases. Spain’s government decided to gradually ease confinement measures. Thus, residents are now allowed to do sports and walk outdoors during certain times of the day. After long weeks of being inside, the Spanish citizens are now enjoying strolling through the city streets and seeing in the dawns. Soon, the government authorities intend to relax the rigorous lockdown rules a little bit more again.
Italy is the third worst-hit country in the pandemic after Spain and the U.S. However, the number of new coronavirus cases is gradually slowing down in the country. The COVID-19 death rate is also steadily declining in Italy. To date, the country reported a total of more than 210,000 cases of coronavirus. The fourth, fifth and sixth worst-affected countries by the novel coronavirus are currently the United Kingdom, France and Germany respectively.
Russia is the seventh worst-hit country in terms of coronavirus infections. According to the latest data, the COVID-19 infected more than 134,000 people and killed at least 1,200 patients in the country. Indeed, the infection doesn’t choose its victims. Earlier, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. Mishustin’s spokesperson Boris Belyakov told reporters that currently the Prime Minister is feeling fine – he is doing paperwork and maintains contact with his colleagues on the phone.
“Mikhail Vladimirovich remains under medical observation and continues to receive the necessary treatment. He feels generally well,” Belyakov said.
The number of coronavirus cases is rising each day in Russia. The Russia’s Health Ministry admits that the reason for the COVID-19 surge might be the non-compliance of the residents with the self-isolation rules. The government authorities proposed to tighten the quarantine measures and the punishments for their violation.
