Lifting restrictions too early could lead to resurgence of COVID-19, WHO says
In today’s world, the fight against COVID-19 is a primary task for the majority of countries. Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) made a number of important statements related to the novel coronavirus.

Lifting lockdown restrictions too quickly could lead to negative consequences. The WHO warned that the second surge of the pandemic is still ahead and it will be defined by the actions countries make.

Effective containment and control measures can significantly slow down the spread of the novel coronavirus. Experts recommend continuing to adhere to certain quarantine rules. The WHO experts outlined the following recommendations in the fight against COVID-19:

Postponing large gatherings, including sports, religious and cultural events;
Placing in quarantine contacts of confirmed patients and people potentially exposed to the virus;
Introducing option for teleworking, and distance learning for schools, universities and other educational institutions, and suspending nonessential business;
All countries must improve their global response to the challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The WHO noted that this implies that the countries should introduce the digital solutions, share medical experience, accelerate the development of the vaccines and expand international cooperation.

Lifting so-called lockdown restrictions is not the end of the epidemic in any country; it’s just the beginning of the next phase. It’s vital in this next phase that countries educate, engage and empower their people to prevent and respond rapidly to any resurgence. The COVID-19 pandemic has reminded us of a simple truth: we are one humanity. We share the same planet. We share the same hopes and dreams. We share the same destiny. We welcome the commitment you are making not only to combat the current crisis, but to ensure this never happens again,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
