Healthcare development for 25 years of Kazakhstan’s independence
Kazakhstan exports not only agricultural products, but also medical equipment. And this is the result of industrial development. Domestic high-tech equipment has proven its competitiveness in the markets. The ratio of price-quality is beneficial for Kazakh clinics as well as for healthcare institutions of neighboring states. According to experts, in recent years, the volume of purchases of diagnostic equipment from Kazakhstan is growing.
KANYBEK KANATBEKULY, DIRECTOR GENERAL, KAZMEDPRIBOR HOLDING LLP
We produce more than 300 types of equipment: X-ray machines, ultrasound systems, infant incubators, baby changing tables, medical furniture and other equipment. We produce equipment for medical vehicles. Since we have a domestic production, the prices are lower by 30-40%.
The consistent development of healthcare has boosted the country’s specialized medical tourism. Thus, the establishment of modern clinics of the National Medical Holding in Astana provided the possibility for foreigners to receive services in Kazakhstan within international standards. Thus, the National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health was the first medical institution in the CIS to receive accreditation of the world leader in health care quality improvement JCI. The National Cardiac Surgery Center is also implementing and applying the most innovative technologies. As a result - Kazakhstan entered the top 22 countries, conducting unique open heart surgery. Other medical centers of Kazakhstan also have impressive achievements.
YERZHAN ADILBEKOV, DEPUTY DIRECTOR, NATIONAL CENTER FOR NEUROSURGERY
We have been accredited twice by JCA. This is the gold standard for the international patient safety. This suggests that any surgery, any procedure is carried out safely in our clinic.
AIDA TURGANBEKOVA, STAFF, TRANSFUSION CENTER
The national neurosurgery center is famous far beyond Kazakhstan. More than 4,000 surgeries are conducted in the center per year. Surgeons accepted 150 patients from abroad this year.
The branch of the Research Institute of Eye Diseases in Astana gained recognition among foreigners as well. Hospital patients are residents of near and far abroad.
TALGAT YELUBAYEV, PATIENT
I feel good. It is the second time I am coming here. I feel better every time. I have been treated for 10 days last year. It is the sixth session this year.
ISOLDA KALANDIYA, CHIEF PHYSICIAN, REHABILITATION MEDICAL CENTER
We have a well-organized website that makes information about the organization available for foreigners. People from Dagestan, Chechnya, Ufa, Orenburg, Sol-Iletsk and Orsk come for treatment.
More patients come from abroad every year. Citizens of the CIS and foreign countries such as the USA, UK, Turkey, India, Bulgaria and Italy come to Kazakhstan to receive treatment. Last year, Kazakhstan was visited by more than 3,600 foreign patients. During the first quarter of this year, 1,879 foreign patients have been cured. As Kazakh Healthcare Ministry notes, such interest is understandable - the cost of operations in Kazakhstan is much lower than abroad, and the quality meets the highest standards. This trend will be supported in Kazakhstan in the future as well. Indeed, the development of both domestic and foreign medical tourism can bring tens of billions of tenge to regional budgets and this is not the limit. Experts estimate the global medical tourism market at $15 billion.
