Volunteers at EXPO 2017
EXPO 2017 is in full swing. Visitors and participants of the international exhibition appreciate the work of volunteers who helped to hold the event on a high level. There are some foreign volunteers as well. Sydney Isaiah is from Italy and has great experience in volunteer work. He participated in EXPO 2015 in Milan, in Sochi and Rio Olympics. He couldn’t miss the international exhibition in Kazakhstan. He also wanted to see the country.
SYDNEY ISAIAH LUKEE OKETAYOT, VOLUNTEER:
- I came to volunteering in Astana because I heard about it at Expo in Milano, in Expo of Milano, where I was volunteering. Before coming to Kazakhstan the only thing I knew so we need to go back before Expo Milano, all I knew about Kazakhstan was the film with Sacha Baron Cohen ‘My name is Borat’.
He took special training and participated in various social projects, forums, and conferences in order to come to Astana EXPO 2017. He also became an organizer of a mini campaign to support EXPO 2017. Sydney became one of 150 foreign volunteers who has come from 40 countries.
AIDA SYZDYKOVA, STAFF, HEADQUARTERS FOR WORK WITH VOLUNTEERS:
- There are volunteers from Azerbaijan, France, Italy, Uganda and other countries. Foreign volunteers received good impressions about Kazakhstan, they liked the people and hospitality.
However, according to Kazakh and foreign volunteers, at EXPO 2017, it doesn’t matter where you came from. They are united by one goal – to be useful for the exhibition. Together, they are learning about the methods of negotiating with expo visitors, the history of the city and new technologies showcased in the exhibition.
