A new achievement of Kazakh cinematography – the film ‘The Legend of Tomiris’ directed by Akan Satayev won the Grand Prix at the French L'Étrange Festival.

“One of the festivals’ partners, CANAL+, the largest French-language paid TV channel in the world, will now show our film at prime time,” Akan Satayev, filmmaker and President of the ‘Kazakhfilm’ studio, wrote on his Instagram account.

The film ‘Tomiris’ is dedicated to the events of the sixth century BC and tells the story of the life of the great queen of the steppe, the legendary Tomiris. Since she was a little girl, she was destined to become a skilled warrior, survive the loss of loved ones, to avenge traitors and unite the Saka tribes under her rule.

The historical drama ‘Tomiris’ was filmed by the ‘Kazakhfilm’ studio with the participation of the ‘Sataifilm’ company at the request of Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports. The lead role was played by Almira Tursyn, who also shared her joy with her social media followers.

“What good news! Glory and gratitude to God! Congratulations to everyone who created, worked and put a piece of their soul into this film!” said the actress.

Companies from the United States, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Romania, Turkey, the CIS and the Middle East have already purchased the rights to show the movie.
