National music competition kicks off to mark composer Nurgisa Tilendiyev’s 95th birth anniversary

The Zhambyl Kazakh State Philharmonic Society launched a contest as part of the Alkissa Festival dedicated to the 95th birth anniversary of the People’s Artist of the USSR Nurgisa Tilendiyev. The contest will be held online from September 1 until September 29, the press office of Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports reported.  The winners in the Dombyra and Vocals nominations will be announced at the end of the contest. In addition, the official opening ceremony of the Alkissa Festival itself will take place on September 30, which will last until October 4. 

“A number of events will be held as part of this festival with the participation of the Otyrar Sazy Academic Folklore and Ethnographic Orchestra named after Nurgisa Tilendiyev and invited artists and musical groups. In addition, there is the holding of the national online contest of dombyra players and vocalists among students of music schools, colleges of music and universities for arts, as well as the artists of music organizations” the statement of the relevant ministry said.
