Kazakh films enter world markets

“Kazakhfilm” studio will present a script for the drama “Abel” at the biggest market in Asia, the Asian Project Market, in Busan, South Korea, reported the studio’s press service.

In October, the film’s international producer Anna Vilgelmi will show the story of a Kazakh shepherd, inspired by Old Testament stories, to producers and investors from all over the world. The producer is known to Kazakh viewers from the films “The Wounded Angel” directed by Emir Baigazin and “Sea Tomorrow” by Katerina Suvorova. “Abel” film director Elzat Eskendir won Busan’s Sonje Award for the best short film in 2016.

Asian Project Market takes place during the Busan International Film Festival. Only promising projects participate in this important event.

Works of Kazakh filmmakers can generate interest from the European viewers as well. Today, Kazakh State Center for Support of National Cinema announced that it will start accepting applications for participation in the Berlinale Co-Production Market throughout September. It will last from February 13 to 17. The event will be held as part of the 71st Berlin International Film Festival.
