Kazakh Culture Ministry launches international music challenge to mark Shamshi Kaldayakov’s 90th birth anniversary
This year the famous Kazakh composer and People’s Artist of Kazakhstan Shamshi Kaldayakov would have turned 90 years old. Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports launched an international music challenge ‘Menin Kazakhstanym’ (My Kazakhstan) to celebrate the birth anniversary of the ‘King of the Kazakh Waltz’, as he is referred to, Facebook account of the relevant ministry said.

Bibigul Tolegenova, the ‘Golden voice of the national stage’ and a legendary singer was the first to respond to the challenge. She performed the song ‘Kaiykta’ (On the boat). In turn, Tolegenova nominated other Kazakh stars, as well as Kazakh citizens living abroad, to participate in the music challenge.

Artists from other foreign countries also joined the musical flash mob, including Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Germany, Bulgaria, Bashkortostan and Buryatia. Having chosen bright costumes and interesting location, each of them performed in Kazakh language one of the most lyrical, gentle and melodic songs of Kaldayakov called ‘Kuanysh valsy’ (Joy Waltz), once again confirming that the Kazakh Waltz King was truly a world-famous composer.

The international music challenge ‘Menin Kazakhstanym’, which brings together stars and talented representatives of cultural intellectuals, world-renowned athletes and Kazakh citizens living overseas, will surprise the audience with its originality and novelty.
