Kazakh First President’s Library presents virtual exhibition dedicated to Abai

The Library of the First President of Kazakhstan presents a virtual exhibition ‘Abai’s legacy as a moral guide’ dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet. The exposition, consisting of materials from the personal archive of the First President of Kazakhstan, as well as museum and book collections of the library, illustrates the history of the preservation and popularization of the philosophical, literary, poetic, and musical legacy of Abai Kunanbaiuly.

The speech of Nursultan Nazarbayev at the celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Abai Kunanbaiuly held on August 9, 1995 in Almaty was among the materials presented in the virtual exhibition. That very year was declared the Year of Abai by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in order for more people to discover the fulness of the multifaceted legacy of the great Kazakh poet.

The Library’s spokespeople say that the great philosopher Abai opened up the world in all its diversity to Kazakh people, being the first to introduce his fellow countrymen with the classical works of foreign writers. To this day, representatives of the 21st century consider Abai a symbol of humanism without national borders. They say that Abai has become a universally recognized Kazakh model of a world free from violence and manifestations of national isolation, which the First President of Kazakhstan proclaimed from the most authoritative platforms. This exhibition proves that Abai has remained a moral compass that preserves the continuity of the main spiritual values of the ancestors.

The materials of the exposition can be found on the website of the Library of the First President of Kazakhstan in the ‘Virtual Exhibitions’ section.
