‘Korkyt’ folk music ensemble takes part in international online musical project

The Kazakh folk music ensemble ‘Korkyt’ took part in an international online project called ‘Musical community’. The ‘Korkyt’ ensemble’s press office reported that the ensemble members together with the musicians of the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY performed the Saken Seifullin’s song ‘Tau ishinde’ (In the mountains).

Before making the video to the song, more than 30 musicians from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Bashkortostan, Uzbekistan and Turkey recorded their parts on smartphones.

We nurtured the idea of the online project with the participation of international musicians for some time and finally we could implement it. In addition to our national instruments, the video included the instruments of komuz, kyl kyyak, kurai, nai, doira, darbuka and baglama. This fusion of the musical instruments of the Turkic-speaking states gave new sound to the performed song. The work on this project proved once again that music indeed has no boundaries,’ said Sholpan Korganbek, the artistic director of ‘Korkyt’ ensemble.

Now the musicians are planning to jointly record the Turkish folk song ‘Üsküdar’a gider iken’ (While going to Uskudar). The artists say that this way they intend to popularize the cultural legacy of the Turkic-speaking states.
