Astana Opera Prepares for the Premiere of Coppelia Ballet

Coppelia ballet, the story of love and deceit staged by choreographer Roland Petit will be performed for the first time in Astana Opera Theatre. Organizers of the event promised that the performance of such rare genre will be loved by the spectators. A mixture of humor and sadness as well as of twist and classical ballet will ensure the novelty and relevance of the performance.

“We have been preparing only for three weeks. It was not enough time, to be honest. The performance is also complicated by a lot of magic things such as little technical candles. The magic potion should smoke as well as the doll should move. There are many important details which we want to make sure that it turns out right,” said Art Director of Ballet Troupe, Altynai Asylmuratova.

One month before the performance, Italian ballet master Luigi Bonino arrived to work with the Kazakh troupe. In 1975, he performed the main part of Coppelius at the premiere of the Ballet National de Marseille. Roland Petit danced in this performance until the age of 73. The main characters are currently played by Bakhtiyar Adamzhan and Aigerim Beketayeva.

“I am very happy to perform on stage with Luigi. He has such energy that you do not even think what you are doing. The performance was very interesting. I really want to showcase my character because in my opinion she is very young and flirtatious. She has to showcase her love, first of all, France and the game with Coppelius. This is the complexity,” said leading soloist, Aigerim Beketayeva

The performance filled with humor, feelings and emotions as well as various dance techniques will be presented to art fans on the stage of the country's main theater this weekend.
