Abai Opera to Be Presented in Uzbekistan
The outstanding piece of the Kazakh music genre, the Abai opera will be presented in Uzbekistan as part of the Astana Opera theater tour.
The famous masterpiece was selected to be shown to the Uzbek public as part of the Modernization of Kazakhstan’s Identity program. The work features four talented Kazakh cultural figures, such as Abai, who is the main character of the opera, the writer of the libretto Mukhtar Auezov and great composers Akhmet Zhubanov and Latif Khamidi.
The producers believe that that the production allows to demonstrate the Kazakh culture on the global arena. The work reveals Abai’s philosophy and life as well as the Kazakh traditions.
“Abai is one of the best Kazakh operas. We need to showcase it to the world. Kazakh operas have always been well received by foreign audiences. I believe that the production will be highly valued in any country,” Director of Astana Opera, Yerenbak Toikenov said.
A team of 200 professionals, including artists, musicians, makeup artists and technical specialists will travel to Tashkent. The crew will also bring nearly 30 tons of decorations to showcase the magnificent opera.
Previously, the Abai opera was successfully presented in the Italian theater of Carlo Felice in Genoa. The Kazakh opera theater will also demonstrate the Madama Butterfly opera. The performances are scheduled for July.
