Activists of Mangystau region are reviving an old tradition of Kazakh folk musical storytelling
Activists of Mangystau region are reviving an old tradition of zhyr – folk musical storytelling. Classes on professional training of zhyrshy, folk singers and storytellers, have been open here at the local arts college. After a 20-year break, the ancient traditional folk motifs have been revived in the school. In addition, the website is developed to promote the national musical art which will feature the most complete information about this particular genre. The electronic archive will include the oldest legends including "Kyrymnyn kyryk batyry" by Sugir zhyrau, as well as nearly 200 other valuable works.
SULTANBEK KUDAIBERGEN, PROJECT AUTHOR:
- We plan to post music notes on the web site. Our users can not only listen to kuis and songs, but also learn to play the kuis with notes. Our goal is to make the rich common heritage and the national brand in the Mangistau region.
This year college students will be able to contest at the republican and international competitions of the zhyrshy. In addition, the regional center plans to open a Traditional School of Art for children.
