The National Museum of Kazakhstan has opened a contemporary art exhibition titled "The Time and Astana: After the Future." Kazakh artists, architects, filmmakers, designers, scientists, anthropologists, philosophers and sociologists have worked together as part of the project named ‘Art Сollider. When Art Meets Science.’ The exposition features works by 25 authors including, installations, photos, videos and paintings.
ROZA ABENOVA, HEAD, CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY ART, NATIONAL MUSEUM OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- Works in various techniques support each other and most importantly, we begin to understand that young artists want to show what they think and what ideas they have about contemporary art.
According to organizers, the project’s goal is the artistic research of time in the city. First of all, visitors got the opportunity to take a fresh look at urban life and rethink it.
AIGERIM KAPAR, EXHIBITION CURATOR:
- I want to talk about the exhibit ‘The Grand Carpet’ by Aigerim Ospanova. It is a carpet which for a decade belonged to a family who moved to Astana, who used to live in rental apartments and a dormitory and even in their dad’s office. This carpet has seen the family’s movements all over the city. In the end, they bought a house and this carpet tells a story of this family.
The exhibition of contemporary art will last in the National Museum until January 21.
