Modernization of public consciousness
It is very important to preserve national culture and traditions in the era of globalization. A large-scale festival of Kazakh customs and traditions "Dastur" was held in the Independence Square in Uralsk. Cultural excursion into the history of national traditions was held as part of the Days of Ethnic Groups in the region. In yurts, chefs shared the recipes of Kazakh traditional dishes, and representatives of elder generation explained the meaning of the ancient ceremonies.
LYAZZAT UTARBAYEVA, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ORAL HUMANITARIAN-TECHNICAL COLLEGE:
- We show a small fragment from the life of the Kazakh people, any Kazakh family, when a student returns to a village and the family welcomes him, what sort of ceremony takes place at that moment.
Young people should value their cultural heritage, the organizers believe. Along with well-known customs such as bride’s farewell, there are many forgotten traditions like ‘shashalu’ when parents cut hair of a newborn and keep it, ‘aidar’ and ‘tulym’, blessing for girls and boys.
GAISA KAPAKOV, DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON, PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- We should not forget our roots, our traditions, and our history. Our traditions unite as the nation. We must unite all Kazakhstani people through traditions; this is a respectful attitude towards each other. Days of ethnic groups are held in our region. Today’s event is the culmination of all days.
The Shubat Festival was organized in the Munailinsk district of Mangistau region. Kazakh sour-milk product was presented by young ladies wearing national costumes. Each of them baked tasty baursaks. The ladies treated the festival visitors, told about the useful properties of the drink, shared the secrets of its preparation and storage.
ZAURESH NURBOLAT, HEAD OF MUNAYLINSK DISTRICT EMPLOYMENT CENTER:
30 local producers presented a drink from camel milk. The event is aimed at preserving the national traditions and cultural heritage of the Kazakh people. Such events are held in all regions across Kazakhstan as part of Modernization of Public Consciousness program. Its goal is to preserve cultural heritage for future generations
