Kazakh ballet wins audience’s hearts in Oman
Astana Opera premiered a new production of the famous Swan Lake in Muscat, the capital of Oman. The leading ballet dancers of Kazakhstan’s principal opera and ballet theater made a splash during the three days they were on tour in Oman. The performances gathered a full house at the Royal Opera House Muscat. Foreign diplomats, businessmen and world ballet stars were among the spectators of the successful production directed by Altynai Asylmuratova.
Mara Galeazzi, former principal dancer at The Royal Ballet in London was stunned by the professionalism and artistry of the Kazakh dancers. She was surprised by how young they were and yet, despite age, they gave a powerful and complex performance, the ballerina said.
Madina Basbayeva and Aigerim Beketayeva played the leading roles. Madina was challenged to play the parts of Odette and Odile. According to the ballerina, playing two antagonist characters was emotionally far more complex than the intense technicality and physicality of the ballet.
Ballet artists of the Astana Opera had prepared for the premiere for two months. They tried to master their parts to perfection. The Kazakh ballet is steadily winning audience’s love throughout the world.
UMBERTO FANNI, DIRECTOR GENERAL, ROYAL OPERA HOUSE MUSCAT:
- My intention to invite Astana Opera comes from long time. I was very curious about this opera house because it is a new opera house like Muscat and I heard about your culture.
