Archeologists find kobyz sculpture
Archaeologists from the Kyzylorda region found an unusual stone statue in the form of a kobyz on the site where once the port city of the 9th-10th centuries was located. Scientists suppose that the monument of the national instrument was created during the Oguz times. Stone sculpture with a size of 40 centimeters, is made of sandstone and decorated with beads.
AGABEK NAZAROV, ART CRITIC:
- There are different assumptions, but as an artist I see this musical instrument in these outlines. The statue isn’t a natural creation. Here you can see the handwork. The edges and the back of the statue are polished.
SERGEI BOLELOV, SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW, STATE ORIENTAL MUSEUM, MOSCOW:
- For us, the main goal is to reveal the entire stratigraphy, all cultural layers, and catch that complex, that moment of transition from Zhetyasar culture to Oguz one. I can say that there is simply no such culture on the Central Asian territory. This is perfect.
