PLACIDO DOMINGO’S OPERALIA, WORLD OPERA COMPETITION
40 talented young opera singers from 17 different countries of the world have gathered in the Kazakh capital. The Astana Opera theater is hosting Placido Domingo’s famous World Opera Competition as part of the EXPO 2017. Four Kazakh artists, including a soloist of Astana Opera, laureate of many international competitions, Maria Mudryak are taking part in the 25th season of the creative competition. Quarter-final and semi-final rounds will take place in the audition format. The participants will perform their chosen arias from the world opera classics under accompaniment of concertmasters of Operalia. Representatives of famous foreign theaters will assess applicants. On July 29th, during the finals, ten contestants accompanied by the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra will give performances under the guidance of maestro Domingo.

- I am very һappy to be here in Astana. And I am amazed by the difference of the citу and of course this unbelievable theater which says how much means the culture for Kazakhstan. I am really proud to celebrate our 25th edition of Operalia which is silver anniversary to be here and we are very proud. So, we are looking forward this year to discover new talents and to have brilliant edition.
The total prize fund of the competition is $180,000. In addition to awarding male and female prizes, participants will be nominated for the Birgit Nilsson Prize for Best Performance of Wagner's and Strauss's arrangements, and the Pepita Embil Domingo Prize of Zarzuela and the Don Placido Domingo Ferrer Prize of Zarzuela for the best performance of the Spanish musical and stage genre close to Operetta zarzuela.
