EXPO-2017: NATIONAL DAYS OF AZERBAIJAN AND LATVIA
Expo is hosting national days of its participant-countries. These celebrations allow the visitors to get to know the traditions and rich cultures coming from different parts of the world. Azerbaijan has had its national day recently.
The Azerbaijan’s national pavilion delves visitors into a rich Central Asian culture. The customs and traditions of the Azerbaijani people were shown on ice screens on the carpet-corridor. Later, visitors took a virtual ride to Baku. Azerbaijan did not only surprise with its cultural program, but also fascinated with new projects in green energy. Azerbaijan’s oil reserves have been known for a long time, now the country is actively developing renewable energy. The share of alternative sources in the total balance has reached 10% in the country. By 2020, the government plans to increase this figure to 20%.
ANAR ALAKBAROV, ASSISTANT TO FIRST VICE PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN:
- Azerbaijan is a country which is rich in oil resources but the main goal is to minimize the dependence on oil resources and transform it into human capital. The state has established the switch to alternative energy. Many environmental projects are being implemented.
Latvia celebrated its National Day, too. The Latvian stars performed world hits on the main stage of the expo town. The country’s President also visited the solemn ceremony. In his welcoming speech, Raimonds Vejonis, praised the expo’s organization and also noted the importance of Latvia's participation in the international exhibition. The country not only presents the latest achievements in green energy, but is also open for prospective business projects. After the concert, the foreign delegation visited the Kazakh and Latvian pavilions. Approximately 40,000 guests have already visited the Latvian section since its opening.
RAIMONDS VEJONIS, PRESIDENT OF LATVIA:
- Participation in the exhibition is an important event for our country. This is a new opportunity for our enterprises to establish partnership with different countries. In addition, the expo is held on the eve of anniversary. In 2018, Latvia marks the 100 years of independence. We invite you to visit our country, to get acquainted with the unique culture of Latvia.
Visitors willing to get acquainted more closely with the trade and economic potential of Latvia can find more information during the Days of Riga at the expo which are scheduled for August.
The expo hosted National Day of Venezuela, too. The country is rich in natural resources. Half of the total amount of produced energy is covered by the renewable sources: wind, sun and water energy.

- We have vast natural resources. We take the 1st place in terms of oil reserves and 6th place in gas reserves. We are honored to participate in the exhibition in Astana and hold the national day of our country.
