ASTANA BALLET PRESENTS NEW PRODUCTION OF CARMEN
Astana Ballet theatre presented a new production the legendary "Carmen". The classical ballet has come to life in fresh colors in the young troupe’s new interpretation. The role of the main heroine was performed by five dancers at once. Kazakhstani choreographer Mukaram Avahri has her vision of the tragic love story of Carmen. In her version, the Spanish beauty is versatile, brave and beautiful, freedom-loving, but also desperately lonely. According to the directors’ idea, each of the five ballerinas reveal different facets of female beauty, charisma and character.
RICARDO AMARANTE, CHOREOGRAPHER
- A ballet with a lot of Latin Spanish flavor that is really interesting for the public, really emotional, really touchy based on the music of Edith Piaff.
"Carmen" occupies a special place in the Astana Ballet theater’s repertoire. This production has received high praise from the critics around the world. The performance was warmly welcomed by the St. Petersburg audience at the White Nights Stars festival in 2015. The Kazakh audience appreciated the production as well.
ASSEL AKBAROVA, ACTRESS, TV PRESENTER:
- Sometimes women put on masks, and this ballet shows how versatile women can be, dark and bright sides of their personalities, here you can even see the full spectrum of colors of their souls. I liked it; it’s a very interesting interpretation!
CHRISTIAN KAMILL, AMBASSADOR OF SWEDEN TO KAZAKHSTAN:
- The production is really good. I would like to congratulate Astana residents on the opening of the new theatre. It is a very significant cultural event. There are many venues for cultural life, but this is one is just awesome.
Sensational music, unusual scenery and graphic visualization helped the ballet dancers to create an exciting atmosphere of love, but also convey the pain of beautiful Carmen.
