NEW EXHIBITION OPENS IN ASTANA
Rich cultural heritage of Atyrau region was presented in Astana. The Library of the First President of Kazakhstan hosted an exhibition ‘Painted stories’. The visitors could see nearly 60 paintings of the fund of Atyrau regional museum of artistic and decorative-applied art. Still lifes, landscapes and portraits - each painting is unique and reflects painter’s creative individuality, painters who share one common desire to show their love for their native land. The exhibition featured paintings by Shaimardan Sariev, whose name was given to the regional museum.
TOLEGEN ORYNBASARULY, DIRECTOR, SARIEV REGIONAL MUSEUM OF ARTISTIC AND DECORATIVE-APPLIED ART:
- All the events, held by Sariev Regional Museum of Artistic and Decorative-Applied Art, are marking two jubilee dates – the 80th birth anniversary of the artist and the museum’s 25th anniversary. Sariev was one of the most outstanding figures of the 1960s. As you know, the generation of artists of the 1960s has made an enormous contribution to art development.
‘I will mix the paints in Kazakh manner’ - this phrase of the artist Shaimardan Sariev reflects his unique art style. The painter was versatile, and had a non-standard thinking. The artist’s peers say that things he couldn’t express in the paintings have been reflected in poetry.
KULPASH SARIEVA, ARTIST’S WIFE:
- He made an enormous contribution to the development of Kazakh national art. When we see his paintings and his palette we can trace Kazakh ornaments, Kazakh style of painting. This is what makes his works distinct from other. Art critics consider him one of the founders of Kazakh national art.
Along with the paintings, the exhibition featured the works of decorative-applied arts: wood and leather wares made by famous craftsmen of Atyrau region. As the organizers say, the exposition represents a synthesis of creativity of contemporary artists and craftsmen. Displayed works captivate by an unusual style and various art techniques.
