Putin awards Gorky Russian Drama Theater in Astana

Gorky State Academic Russian Drama Theatre received award from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The award was given by Russian ambassador to Kazakhstan Mikhail Bocharnikov. According to the diplomat, the drama theatre in Astana makes a considerable contribution to the cultural dialogue between the two countries.



- Gorky State Academic Russian Drama Theatre became well-known in Russia with its plays, staging and performances. It tours to Russia very often thereby contributing to our cultural rapprochement. 2007 is the year of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries and therefore it is particularly symbolic that the Russian president has expressed his gratitude to the Drama Theatre.


Gorky Drama Theatre is one of the oldest in Kazakhstan. It was found in the end of the 19th century. It has been staging various plays by Shakespeare and Moliere, Pushkin and Dostoyevsky, Gorky and Seifullin, Simonov and Bulgakov. The theatre’s repertoire consists of nearly 30 plays based on Kazakh and world drama. Famous foreign directors are often attracted for the theatre’s production. The plays they stage are designed for spectators of any age. The theatre strives for spectators’ appreciation. Such careful attitude to the audience bears fruit. They are welcomed in the CIS, Europe and Asia.



- It is a great honor and responsibility. We are working very hard and perform at an international level. We tour to Beijing, Europe, Hungary, Spain and Russia. We actively participate in large festivals. We are warmly welcomed everywhere. We receive very good feedback.


The theatre is planning to take part in the international festival in St. Petersburg. The troupe will stage the play ‘Awakening’ by Yakut director Sergey Potapov. There is no doubt that the play will trigger great interest among the audience of the cultural capital of Russia because Kazakh artists’ acting is always admired.
