Historical film premiered in Astana
The historical film “Diamond Sword” has premiered in Astana. This version of the film series “Kazakh Eli”, was initiated by the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev. The film displays the events on the territory of modern Kazakhstan 550 years ago.
It was the middle of the 15th century. Dramatic events took place in the boundless great steppe. Amid the raging internecine wars, the struggle for power, cruelty and treachery at that time, the sultans Kerey and Zhanibek founded a new state and became the founders of the Kazakh Khanate. They were the first Kazakh khans. The film displays the events of the time, endless battles with the enemies, subtle diplomacy and the two khans’ attempts to unite the people.
KAIRAT KEMALOV, ACTOR:
I play one of the main roles. I recreate and convey the image and character of Kerey Khan. I admit it was not easy and challenging. It is a great pressure playing such historical figure. I was worried a lot.
According to the director, filming was hard, particularly, in terms of logistics. Some scenes involved up to 500 people - actors, extras, costume designers all on the same set. A proper coordination of the crew members’ activities was a real challenge for the director.
RUSTEM ABDRASHOV, DIRECTOR:
The biggest task was to recreate a real atmosphere of that time, to recreate two khans, not just glorious leaders, but as human beings with their weakness and strengths, with all the human traits through the events that unfolded 550 years ago.
The film will be released nationwide immediately after the New Year holidays, and in the spring the first season of the Kazakh Eli film series - an extended version of the film “Diamond Sword” will be screened.
