FILMMAKER AKAN SATAYEV WINS GRAND PRIZE AT MARCO POLO FILM FESTIVAL
Kazakh film ‘A Road to Mother’ by Akan Satayev and General Producer Aliya Nazarbayeva won the Grand Prix at the annual Marco Polo international film festival in Croatia. The professionalism of the Kazakh filmmakers was noticed at once even though it was the first participation of Kazakhstan in the festival.

- This is a great joy because it was a hard work of a large team led by the director and screenwriters. The film is very humane and warm. The film about the love of a mother and a son tells the story of our people. Great honor of our country.
The film ‘A Road to Mother’ is a touching story of the main character’s separation from the mother. The main character faces the hardships of collectivization, WWII and postwar period. According to film critics, actors conveyed the full spectrum of the characters’ feelings. The historical drama touched the hearts of both spectators and jury members.

- This is a very high production of this year and I was very impressed that Kazakhstan like a country has so high standard of a production. I was very surprised with the actors in the film and finally the most important was the message of the film. Message of the film is universal message.

- There is rising cinematography. It hasn’t been so famous in the film festivals in the past but in recent years it is growing. It is drawing attention to its actors, to directors, to its culture and the cinematography.
The films premiere took place in Moscow, Bishkek and Athens. It is planned to show the film in other countries as well
