Festival of Israeli films held in Astana
Unconventional and ironic – this is how the film named ‘The Size Matters’ can be described. This movie opened the festival of Israeli films in Astana. Five motion pictures were presented to the Kazakh audience as part of the festival. Kazakhstan’s capital city became the final destination point of the festival that has been already held in Shymkent and Bishkek. The opening was attended by the representatives of the Jewish Diaspora, film fans and representatives of film industry. It is not surprising that such cultural event was held for the first time in Astana. Previously, the screening of Israeli filmmakers’ works used to be held in Almaty.
Michael BRODSKY, AMBASSADOR OF ISRAEL TO KAZAKHSTAN:
We selected the best movies that were shot in Israel in recent years. Of course, it is impossible to display the whole spectrum of Israeli films because they make lots of movies. However, we selected those films that, as we think, will have success here in Kazakhstan.
The film festival was held with participation of Israeli Embassy in Kazakhstan. According to diplomats, an interest to Kazakh films is observed in Israel and probably similar festival will be held in their country but with Kazakh films.
