School student wins award at international film competition
A school student from Ust-Kamenogorsk won the prestigious European film award. 16-year-old Aibek Tugelbai filmed a social video clip about family values – a conflict between fathers and children. The teen’s work dazzled the jury of the Vienna International competition of animated films. European critics were impressed by the depth of the director's thoughts and emotional impact.
The 30-second film illustrates today’s relationships between the parents and children where parents who are burdened with life’s bitter realities sometimes lose contact with their children.
Aibek TUGELBAYEV, WINNER OF VIENNA INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF ANIMATED FILM:
Today more and more parents spend their time on social networks, on the phone and simply forget about their children. They lack the face-to-face communication.
The idea to narrate about the global problem came to him in this small school television studio. During the breaks he was assembling his film crew. Friends and classmates have become his cameramen, illuminators and directors.
I easily put the clip together in just one week without much debate and discussion. Students say they just showed their vision.
Ainur AUBAKIROVA, LEADER OF SCHOOL TELEVISION STUDIO:
Of course we are glad that our video took the first place at the international level but the ultimate goal is to convey this idea to people.
