Kyrgyzstan Starts Exporting Felt Products to Japan
Kyrgyzstan is planning to start exporting toys made of felt to Japan. A factory for the production of felt-made items has been opened in the country.
The natural material is used to sew toys as well as bags, scarves and slippers. One seamstress can produce seven to ten felt-made toys and five pairs of felt slippers per day. Most of the products are exported while some are being sold in Bishkek, Osh and Issuk-Kul region.
Staff of Workshop, Sabira Iskakova said that she has been making toys for six years. She used to work from home just like other women in her village.
Felt products from Kyrgyzstan were very popular in the 19th century. Buyers from Russia and other countries used to purchase the items made of natural wool.
The needlewomen are ready to revive the global interest in the products once again.
