SCO CENTER FOR PUBLIC DIPLOMACY OPENS IN TASHKENT
The Center for Public Diplomacy of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is opened in Tashkent. The President of Uzbekistan announced the plan to open the center in June 2017 at the SCO Summit in Astana. The new center will be a platform for the expansion of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the SCO countries as well as the establishment of interaction between society institutions, including youth and women’s organizations.
SODIQ SAFOYEV, FIRST SENATE DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OLIY MAJLIS OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN
-The last SCO Summit in Astana has once again demonstrated the desire of the member countries to expand the range of interaction. Earlier, the organization was mainly focused on two directions, which include security and economic cooperation. But now we realized that the organization will not acquire its full-scale nature of interaction without including other areas such as education and tourism as well as the institute of sister cities and others.
RAKHMATULLA NAZAROV, THE HEAD OF THE CENTER AND MEMBER OF THE SENATE OF OLIY MAZHLIS OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN
-When we talk about public diplomacy, we talk about the hearts of the people, the close relations that people have with each other. In this regard, the Center for Public Diplomacy will carry out the main work so that the relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will further develop. Moreover, this year we celebrate the Year of Kazakhstan in Uzbekistan and in this regard our activities will be useful.
