Review on Central Asia
Ashgabat hosted a meeting of the High-Level Dialogue of the European Union – Central Asia and Afghanistan to discuss the matters of policy and security. Based on Trend.Az news agency report, participants of the meeting discussed issues on modern challenges and threats, particularly terrorism. They also discussed matters related to water resources management as well as the peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan will increase the export of electricity to Afghanistan. According to the Central Asian news service, the Uzbek Government is set to boost the export volumes this year, including the transit of electricity. Uzbekistan has been exporting electricity to Afghanistan since 2002. In 2018, a contract was signed for the supply of about two billion kWh of electricity. One of the main tasks of Uzbekistan for the future is connecting Afghanistan to the single power network of Central Asia.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on the establishment of the Bukhoro Agro free economic zone in Bukhara region. The economic zone is created in order to attract foreign and local investments for the establishment of modern greenhouses as well as improve processing activities and increase the export volume of agricultural goods.
Kyrgyz Government is planning to conduct a census in 2020, according to a report by Vesti.Kg. The official survey is planned to be held between March 23 and April 1. According to the preliminary data, 547.5 million som will be required to conduct the project. Meanwhile, the Government officials are set to hold a pilot census in 2019 in Chuy region to test the system.
