Central Asian countries agreed to hold the World Cleanup Day, which will start on 15th September. The event was announced at the International Conference ‘Green Heroes’ in Astana. Eco-activists from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and other countries gathered to discuss preparations for event and suggest ways of improvement of the ecological situation.
JULIA MARKHEL, AMBASSADOR, ‘LET’S DO IT! WORLD’ INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION:
- During the four days of the conference, we will be developing national plans on how to conduct the first cleanup and bring the whole country together and how to plan further steps that will lead to a spotless country after the cleanup. This includes what needs to be done on legal, mental, informational and educational levels.
Organizers of the cleanup event also developed a special mobile application with interactive map where people could mark places of accumulation of waste and send volunteers there. Thus, it will be possible to assess the quality of the work performed. As part of the international forum, educational trainings were held for the younger generation in the Arnasay Green Technologies Center.
SALTANAT RAKHIMBEKOVA, CHAIRWOMAN, COALITION FOR GREEN ECONOMY:
- A training workshop will be held there covering topics such as waste management, existing recycling technologies, and promotion of cleanliness among people. Young people will speak about it which I think is awesome.
The World Cleanup Day is the largest ecological campaign in the history of humanity. It will bring 150 countries together.
