Tourist attractions in Central Asia
Tourism to Central Asia is gaining momentum among Russian travelers. According to the results of the recent study, tourist places of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are growing in demand among the Russians.
SVETLANA ANUFRIYENKO, HEAD, TOURISM ASSOCIATION OF RUSSIA’S REGIONS:
- There are more than 50 million Russians traveling in a year. Our countries are so close that people easily travel to Kazakhstan. All of these people are your potential visitors.
Russian tourists are interested not only in the diversity of Kazakhstan’s natural landscapes, but also in its historical places and monuments. Moreover, travelers are drawn to the local lifestyle, traditions, customs and crafts of the Kazakh people. For example, a group of tourists from Samara was impressed by the weaving process of the Kazakh whip ‘kamchy’ during a master class organized for the tourists. The traditional accessory is weaved from the 5 to 40 processed leather strings. The whip is made of meadowsweet of pomegranate color which is adorned with metallic decorations, leather and fringe.
ARTYOM ZHIVOGLYAD, HEAD, RUSSIAN TRAVEL GROUP:
- It is interesting that the kamchy can be such a threatening weapon. It is made of leather and it is soft. It is not made of metal and wood, but it can slice a bag of flour. I like that all these traditions and lifestyle have been preserved in Kazakhstan. All of this is lost in Russia and it is good that you have kept your heritage.
In addition to traditional destinations of Central Asia, tourists are also trying eco, ethno, ski and business tourism.
AYA KUSAINOVA, HEAD, KAZAKH TOURISM ASSOCIATION:
- We are focusing on developing eco and ethno tourism in Kazakhstan, whereas in Uzbekistan, historical and cultural tourism is more developed. Since the country has a lot of historical sites that have remained from the time they were built. We basically develop ethno tourism and everything related to our culture, but this is very similar to what is being done in Kyrgyzstan since we share a very similar culture and history.
