Kazakh Parliament adopts amendments to 2020 budget, sends them to Tokayev for signature

The Kazakh Parliament adopted amendments to the national budget for this year. The amendments are related to the financial support for health workers and measures for the possible second wave of coronavirus spread. This was reported today at a meeting of the Senate, Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament, by Kazakh Finance Minister Yerulan Zhamaubayev, who presented the country’s draft budget for 2020.

More than a half of almost 240 billion tenge (over US$557 million) will be allocated for compensation to health workers. The minister informed that another 260 billion tenge (US$603.6 million) will be aimed at the development of the real sector of the economy and social support of security forces.

It is worth adding that the funding was redistributed also due to the formation of new state agencies and the reorganization of the existing ones. As a result, the national budget income amounted to 12 trillion tenge (US$27.8 billion), the minister summarized.

“The review of the national budget aims at the execution of orders announced by the President in the latest state-of-the-nation-address. They concern the restoration of economic growth and the fight with the pandemic. This year has been challenging due to the new virus spread. Nevertheless, the President is doing his best to meet the state’s social objectives for the population. During the budget review, a particular attention was paid to the solution of social issues and specific sectors of the economy,” said Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairperson of the Senate.
