Mangystau region to build new ferry by 2023

According to the press office of the Governor’s Office of the Mangystau Region, a new ferry will be built in the region by 2023 as part of the new infrastructure development program. Currently, the issue of attracting investors to the project and purchasing the necessary equipment is being considered. This project as well as the shipbuilding project in Kuryk seaport is yet to be further discussed.

The Aktau Sea Trade Port located at the crossroads of several transport hubs is of strategic importance for Kazakhstan. In 2019, the seaport received more than 3.5 million tons of cargo. It is reported that the numbers of the transported oil and oil products increased significantly.

The indicators of the containers processed in the Aktau seaport increased nearly six times. This was facilitated by the launch of the feeder transport from Aktau to the port of Alat in Azerbaijan.

Kazakh railway tariffs facilitate the growth of the volume of traffic in the direction from China to Europe. The tariffs in Kazakhstan are two or three times lower than in Russia. In addition, nearly 90 percent of cargo is transported below its cost. According to the results of 2019, the cargo transportation by sea amounted to 5.8 million tons, including 1.3 million tons through the Kuryk seaport, 3.5 million tons through the Aktau seaport and 1 million tons through the Aktau Sea Northern Terminal. In addition, 3.8 million tons were transported by rail.

“Creation of high-quality road transport system is necessary in order to increase the capacity of the ports and escalate the volume of cargo transportation. That is why we pay a lot of attention to the road maintenance,” the press office of the Governor’s Office of Mangystau Region reported.
