Kazakhstan’s tourism industry

The tourism industry is one of the priority areas in Kazakhstan’s economy. The country’s exotic nature and traditions have attracted the interest of many foreign travelers.

The number of tourists last year was recorded at 8.5 million last year, a 10% increase compared to the figure in 2017.

Kazakhstan offers different types of tourism products, which includes business, educational, gastronomic, pilgrimage, ethnographic and sports, medical and beach.

“It only takes 50 minutes to fly. It is very comfortable and very convenient. It takes four hours by road since the Almaty-Oskemen highway is still under construction,” tourist, Azat Zhumakhanov said.

Meanwhile, a new unique route to the historical Turkistan city is opened to attract tourists to one of the oldest cities in Kazakhstan and Central Asia region. The Pearl of the Great Steppe can now be reached via camel caravan. The journey starts from the ancient Shavgar city, which used to be the center of the Turkistan region between the 8th and 10th centuries.

Last year, more than 1.2 million tourists visited Turkistan. Experts said that the state program of tourism development will attract more travelers to the region.

There are many historical locations in the region such as the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi mausoleum as well as ancient cities such as Sauran, Otyrar, Sidak and Kultobe.
