17,000 Tonnes of Grain Exported Through Aktau Seaport Since Beginning Of The Year

The Aktau seaport has handled more than 17,000 tons of grains in the first two months of this year.

The exported products, mostly grain crops from North Kazakhstan, Kostanai and Akmola regions are shipped to Azerbaijan and Iran.

Akbidai Terminal Corporation chairperson, Rafail Galyamov said 2019 has started off very well for the company and they are now concluding their projected figures for March, April and May.

“Then preparations for the new season will begin. I think that we will start our work in August. We plan to export about 500,000 to 600,000 tons of transshipment,” he said.

In 2018, a total of 818,000 tons of grain were exported to Iran via the Aktau seaport while in 2017 the figure was recorded at 500,000 tons.

Experts said that one of the reasons behind the increased shipment figure is due to the purchase of Kazakhstani barley from Iran as there is high demand for the barley in the Islamic Republic.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is one of the most significant players in the global wheat market. The country is one of the 15 largest producers and the 10th largest exporters of grain and flour.

The country’s export potential is estimated at nine million tons, including six million tons of grain and over two million tons of flour.
