DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION TO TRIGGER GROWTH OF AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

Kazakhstan automotive industry saw a stable growth last year with an 80% production increase. Experts say that the high performance is the result of active digitization of the sector. (The automotive industry is one of the most high-tech sectors in the country’s industrial production). Some of the local car assembly plants have equipment that are not available in other CIS countries.

The Oskemen car assembly plant is one of the main projects under the State Program for Accelerated Industrial Innovative Development. Over 16 years of operation, the company has invested US$489 million in production and infrastructure.

The Kostanai Automobile Plant has increased its productivity by 203%. Every tenth car assembled in Kostanai has been exported to neighboring countries such as Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Meanwhile, a number of trial cars are sent to Belarus. Azerbaijan is also considered as a potential market.

In the last seven years, the production volumes of the car wheels have been increased by 2.5 times. Kazakh automotive manufacturers produce agricultural machinery and equipment as well as trucks and buses. The latter are manufactured in Semey. About 500 buses are planned to be produced by year-end.

-There is a comprehensive program which has been adopted to provide the country with more locally-made buses. The program helps the automotive plants which produce buses (and its equipment).

Double deck trailers with 29 tonnes total capacity will be produced at an automotive manufacturing plant in Kokshetau. Last year, another agricultural machinery production and assembly plant has produced automobiles worth over US$9 million.

-New types of tillage have been added to our production. The range of plows and harrows has also been increased. In addition, we have worked with our Russian partners and launched the drill production that will be high in demand this spring.

Kazakhstan’s automotive industry has to expand and need large investments. In the next two years, more than US$1 billion will be invested into the production of locally-made cars.
