Light industry is demonstrating growth in Kazakhstan’s economy

Light industry is demonstrating growth in Kazakhstan’s economy. The increase is observed in areas such as textile industry and garment production. Today, Kazakhstan’s light industry is represented by almost 1,000 enterprises, 95% of which are small businesses. The number of industrial facilities is growing every year. Seven new enterprises were opened in 2018, while three new projects will be implemented in the near future.

DARKHAN KARIBAYEV, EXPERT, KAZAKH MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT:

- We are planning to commission three light industry projects in Turkestan and Almaty regions, as well as the city of Shymkent. The projects include construction of the third phase of the carpet manufacturing factory. The facility will focus on manufacturing yarns.

The light industry output is worth 90 billion Tenge. The Government is focused on the development of non-raw materials exports. In the upcoming years, the Government will allocate an additional of half a trillion tenge for the light industry development.

SENIOR OFFICIAL, KAZAKH MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT:

- 470 billion tenge out of half a trillion tenge will be allocated to finance enterprises, while the remaining 30 billion tenge will be spent on service support for the businesses. We are planning to open representative offices of Kazakhstan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry abroad. There are such offices in the Russian city of Novosibirsk, in particular. We are set to open 10 more offices.

Experts believe that the light industry started growing since the beginning of the industrialization program, as part of which more than 1,000 new enterprises were opened in Kazakhstan. About 100 industrial facilities were commissioned last year. Over 500 product types are exported today to 110 countries.
