This year three new oil and gas fields have been emerged on the map of Kazakhstan

This year three new oil and gas fields have been emerged on the map of Kazakhstan. Reserves of Nurzhanov, Uaz Severnyi and Bukhar-Sai reach nearly 2.5 million tonnes. Experts say that there is still unprocessed oil in the ground. Therefore, there is a need for "aggressive" geological prospecting. Analysts state that the industry will not lose its strategic value for a long time.

BAKHYT MAKHANOV, SPOKESPERSON, OIL INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT, KAZAKH MINISTRY OF ENERGY:

 - In Kazakhstan, oil companies have produced over 80 million tonnes of oil. From this volume more than 63 million tonnes were exported. The rest went to the republic’s refineries. Oil production has increased by 106.7%.

Most of the revenues to Kazakh economy are provided by three super giants, specifically, Tengiz, Karashaganak and Kashagan. They will dominate for a long time. Experts say that the oil production will peak in 2035. Today, 277 oil fields are known in Kazakhstan. Nearly 50 of them have been discovered in the last 10 years. Another important goal is to use new technologies in development of fields.

NYSANBAI KUANTAYEV, MEMBER, ACADEMY OF MINERAL RESOURCES OF KAZAKHSTAN:

 - We extract only 35-40% of the volume. The rest remains in the depth. We must use technology, specifically, nanotechnology in order to extract more volumes.

Oil exploration costs a lot than finding solid minerals. There is no guarantee that the investment will be paid off. Nevertheless, according to the latest data, Kazakhstan has enough reserves of hydrocarbons. The volume has increased from 22 to 76 billion tonnes. According to a geological industry development program, 40 billion Tenge have been allocated for annual exploration from 2015 to 2019.

AKBATYR NADYRBAYEV, CHAIRPERSON, COMMITTEE OF GEOLOGY AND SUBSOIL USE:

 - We and subsoil users are focused on the study of deep horizons using new technologies: seismic exploration and other types of geophysical studies that allow us to predict deposits at deeper horizons. You might’ve heard that a few years ago the ‘Eurasia’ project was proclaimed for the purpose of studying the Caspian lowland at great depths and drilling well with a depth of more than 12,000–15,000 meters.

Kazakh experts say that oil will play a significant role in the global energy balance for upcoming decades. These energy resources will determine the vector of Kazakhstan’s economic development for a long period. Therefore, experts say that oil and gas exploration is the most important state goal.
