Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan continues to grow
Afghanistan’s economic stability is a priority for Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan. The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan continues to grow. This year, the trade volume increased by 19 per cent or US$180 million compared to last year. The export of Kazakh products to Afghanistan also increased. In return, Afghanistan plans to increase the volume of its export products to Kazakhstan. The prospects for further cooperation were discussed in Astana.
HUMAYOON RASAW, AFGHAN MINISTER OF INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE:
- Our trade has increased but unfortunately, it is an unbalanced trade but that’s why we came to discuss that there are potential we could increase our export in the meantime. We can increase our volume of trade, investment opportunities. Kazakhstan has a very good investment climate and our investors are really keen to come and invest into Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed logistics, transit and customs regulation. Currently, Afghanistan exports 24 commodity items and it plans to increase the number of items in the near future.

- There are a number of potential products. We have dry fruits, fresh fruits, saffron, herbal products, carpets, animal skin, gemstones and marbles. These are potential products that Afghanistan is expecting to find better markets in Kazakhstan and enhance the current volume of export from Afghanistan to Kazakhstan.
