Moldova: Observer status at EAEU
Moldova was granted the observer status at the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). According to international experts, this status will allow Moldova to significantly boost its production and export volumes. Moldova’s cooperation with the EAEU will cover areas such as agriculture, manufacturing, information technologies, digital economy and other industries. Moreover, Moldova’s new status will provide additional opportunities for starting negotiations on free trade privileges and elimination of technical barriers.
IGOR BURAKOVSKIY, DIRECTOR, INSTITUTE FOR ECONOMIC RESEARCH, UKRAINE:
- If the EAEU resolves issues such as elimination of technical barriers in trade, for example, between Belarus and Kazakhstan, then it is definitely a positive step. If these countries work together on processes such as unification of technical regulations, then it is definitely a plus. In this regard, we can say that the trade dialogue between Kazakhstan and Moldova will be developed further.
ALEXANDER OKHRIMENKO, UKRAINIAN ECONOMIST:
- Food industry is currently well-developed in Moldova. They apply European technologies and produce goods that meet the international best practices. It is profitable for Moldova to find large markets such as Kazakhstan. They need to deal with both the Eurasian Economic Union and Europe, because it is better to trade with various markets.
