Development of transport and logistics infrastructure
Kazakhstan is actively developing its transport and logistics potential. The country has an increasing role as a transit hub. Today, sea transportation takes the lion’s share of global trade activities. There are 48 countries with no access to open sea. Only a few states, including Kazakhstan, have managed to get access to the sea. These countries have become worthy competition for the leading maritime nation. Maritime infrastructure has been developed in Kazakhstan. More than US$30 billion was invested into the construction of the infrastructure. The amount is one tenth of all investments attracted into the country since its independence. The infrastructure includes the construction of 2,500 kilometers of railways and over 6,000 kilometers of highways. The capacity of Aktau and Kuryk ports were also increased.
